Choosing your newborn photography style

Lifestyle vs Posed Studio session...

Newborn pictures are the sweetest! There is such a short period of time to record the fresh newness of a baby. The style of photography—lifestyle or posed—may be an easy decision for some to make, while it is difficult for others to choose. Lifestyle pictures feature your sweet newborn in your home, while also capturing all of the details of their nursery. A handmade sign, a knitted heirloom and the perfect outfit are featured in sweet snapshots of your days-old baby.

My name is Trisha Hagge, and I chose to have lifestyle newborn pictures taken of my first two babies, as I was more comfortable having a photographer travel to me. Getting out with a newborn, (or newborn and toddler!) can be difficult in the early days, and I was happy to stay home! I loved the idea of my baby being photographed in his nursery, while also recording details of a new crib and little baby toys. The ease of feeding my baby, while changing diapers and clothes in the familiar setting of our home, was comforting to this new and tired mama!

When pregnant with my third baby, I decided to have posed newborn pictures taken with Easley Life Photography at Jordan's in-home studio. I was a little more relaxed the third time around, and I was happy to have more help in advance from Jordan. We planned the color scheme, clothes for all family members, backdrops, props, and overall “feel” of the pictures months before my baby was born! The morning of our studio session, my family and I rushed out of the house--late, but our session was quick to start as soon as we arrived, as everything was already planned and waiting at the studio. I was thrilled to have more photographs that featured my baby. Even though I didn’t have our home as the backdrop in the pictures this time around, I felt like these pictures could easily mix in a collection with other family pictures.

I cherish the newborn pictures I have of all of my boys. I was pleasantly surprised at the ease of having posed pictures taken with my third baby. The pictures had a natural feel, although they were perfectly planned! I was happy to have the selection of pictures I have to share with my family. Whichever style is chosen, there is nothing to match the beauty captured in the photograph of a newborn!

Here are a few images Easley Life Photography captured for my family.
