One thing your nursery is missing...

When decorating your nursery you probably jump right on Pinterest and start searching for colors and styles. At least that's what I did! I spent hours pinning my favorite ideas, but when looking from the lens of a photographer I noticed something missing from most of those "Pinterest worthy" nurseries.

Of course, they all had the crib, some sort of chair or glider, a dresser...but when it came to artwork none showed examples of how to display newborn photography. You get so busy wanting the room to be "done" before the baby gets here that you fill the walls without reserving space for celebrating your precious baby.

I encourage you to save room for your baby...which sounds silly but you know its true!

This will require some self-restraint when you are at Target or TJMaxx and you see that adorable little picture of an elephant or a framed watercolor monogram that totally matches your theme. At the end of the day this is all just stuff, wouldn't your rather look at your shelves on the wall to see a sweet maternity picture next to a gorgeous moment of you as a family holding your precious baby?

Now this doesn't mean I am recommending the room should be a shrine covered in wallpaper of your baby. But I am encouraging you to think outside of the box, plan ahead and save room for at least three pieces of art from the session.

Walk into your nursery...

1. Have a seat in your glider. Here you will probably spend hours either feeding your baby or rocking them to sleep. Look for space nearby you could hang a precious canvas of your little one, perhaps smiling or sleeping like an angel.

2. Go to your changing table. Do you have a shelf near with nic-nac's perhaps you could save a space for your favorite photograph of your husband holding your little one? Just in case you have those poopy diaper situations and you get in a rut trying to calculate all the diapers you change compared to your husband....it might be handy to remember how sweet and handsome he is!

3. Sit on the floor. You will likely spend lots of time with your baby here! Where is a good place for something like a photo block you could display your favorite family picture on? This will soon become your child's favorite toy, pointing out Momma, Dadda, and baby.

Congratulations on your little one! I am so excited for you and I hope that you are able to take these tips and plan a nursery that is personal and special to you!
