Financial advice, from mom to mom.
You are FINALLY to the point in your pregnancy you can see the light at the end of the tunnel. You feel like you can actually start planning and decorating the nursery for your new sweetheart that will be arriving in no time. What colors are we going to use? What type of crib? Decorations, showers, diapers, clothes, cute things to put on the wall and shelves. It moves so fast looking from the second trimester into the middle of the 3rd. There's just SO much to do and get ready! As a mom we are inherently planners. We plan for everything! When we go to the salon, when we need to start packing for our trips, so of course we plan everything to a T when our babe will be coming into our lives. But there's some things you are forgetting. Trust me. It's so easy to go get those cute decorations as you are shopping. It's easy to fill up your beautiful nursery with things that don't actually hold much value in our lives as time goes on and your baby grows into a child. As family and friends are showering you with gifts, gift cards and cash here are some areas I suggest you invest.
- Nursery
- Just because it's cute doesn't mean you should buy it. Try not to spend very much on nic-nacs to fill space in the nursery. What you add to this space should be things that will last for more than the ‘baby’ stage. One wise place to spend your money is on professional prints of the maternity, family, and newborn pictures you paid to have done. Trust me - you'll love looking at that sweet face on the wall WAY more than the alphabet or pictures of cute baby animals.
- Baby's future
- Don't forget to go ahead and start that savings account. Yes. Now. Before they are here. Because, you'll spend a whole lot after that beautiful babe gets here. Find a trustworthy Advisor to discuss different ways to save and invest for your lovely little one when they get here.
- You
- Go ahead and put a bit back into an account just for you while you're preggo. Book a few trips to your massage therapist and chiropractor for before and after the baby is here. Get those YOU appointments on the calendar, save for them, then GO. You'll thank me later. Again, Trust Me!
There are so many things to plan when you find out you're pregnant! Enjoy the months as they go by so fast (even though it doesn't seem like it when you're 9mo preggo!) then enjoy that precious life you've waited and planned for.
