Summer in Conway, AR

I really wanted to title this blog, “how to keep children alive and your sanity this summer,” but that seemed a bit long! But let’s be real, this is the ultimate goal!

The key to my sanity is a structure or some sort of routine! The goal is to give the kids a balance of free time and scheduled activities they can look forward to throughout the week! I have collected some ideas for you to reference! Maybe get out a calendar for June & July and pick 1 inside activity and 1 outside activity for each week (or more if you are feeling confident)! Then as a family pick at least 2-day trips for the month, this is something maybe for the weekend that you could do as a family. And of course, don’t forget to check out the summer camp options for little Mama breaks!

As I was creating this list, I started getting excited about all the fun things we get to do this summer! If you have creative ways to have fun this summer, feel free to message me on social media and I can add them to the list to share with other Moms! ;)

**Pro tip from a Mom friend- Let the kids pick a goal for the summer! Like learning to ride a bike, learn to swim, or read a certain number of books! **

What’s in my Amazon cart??

Here are a few things on my backyard survival list for littles!

What does summer look like for my family?

My kids are 4 1/2 yrs and almost 2 years old, so the structure of our day is divided into morning/lunch activity and after naptime! Even if your kids don’t take a nap I highly recommend incorporating at least 1 hour of “rest”! Rest can look like a lot of things, but if they are school age maybe let them pick some books from the library (given the option some kids might actually prefer to take a nap over reading)! Our typical summer day would start with one of the ‘outside’ or ‘at home’ activities before it gets too hot! If we do plan on being outside in the afternoon typically we make sure it’s a water play activity! The ‘inside"‘ list comes in handy for rainy days or when it’s just too hot to be outside for long! Thankfully my mom does have a pool, so we spend quite a bit of time there with family! We also have a great group of kids on our cul de sac so we love playing outside with them!

I also work of course, so I have a few family members on standby when I have a session and need help with the kids. Since my sessions are mostly in the morning or late in the day, I have quite a bit of time to spend with my kids doing fun things! My hope is that this list is helpful and encourages you to get out and make family memories for yourself and your kids! :)

Monday and Thursday mornings you can find us at the library for circle time, and the other days you can guarantee we will be outside somewhere! ;)
